WASHING
First of all, check the label to see if machine washing, hand washing, or dry cleaning is best. The best way to prevent your garments from losing their color is to hand wash them in cold water.
A suitable temperature for washing towels and sheets is 40°C. So — cold for colored cotton, hot — for bed linens and undergarments. Use hot water carefully, as washing cotton in hot water can cause it to shrink.
Selecting a high-performing detergent is your best option for removing body soil, odor, and most stains. Also, avoid fabric softeners, as this can dull the finish.
DRYING
Cotton fabrics can be air-dried or machine dried using moderate-to-low heat; on an outdoor clothesline or indoor drying rack.
ATENTION ! |
High heats can cause cotton fibers to shrink.
IRONING
Cotton is a fairly tough fabric and can be ironed at higher temperatures without the risk of shininess or burning. For extra protection, use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Note that ironing can usually be avoided by air drying or removing immediately from the machine.
STORING
Cotton is quite a durable fabric and can easily handle daily wear. To keep cotton clothing in optimal condition, invest in thick, shaped hangers rather than wire ones, As cotton creases very easily, store your cotton clothing by hanging it up.
To prevent wrinkling, fold and store cotton pants in a dresser and hang cotton shirts in a closet.
